WiredScore Celebrates First Anniversary of UK Launch

Insights | Cassandra Wheeldon on November 21, 2016

This month marks the one year anniversary of WiredScore’s expansion into the UK market. In October 2015, following a competitive process selection by the Greater London Authority, Wired Certification was endorsed as the Mayor of London’s official digital connectivity rating scheme.

As we look back over WiredScore’s first year in the UK, we wanted to share with you some of our most important moments to date:

October 2015 – First Wired Certified buildings are announced in London

WiredScore’s launch in London was made possible thanks to a number of forward thinking landlords including Derwent, British Land, Stanhope and Land Securities who shared our mentality and wanted to better understand the connectivity in their buildings. The first buildings in London to become Wired Certified included 20 Fenchurch Street, The Leadenhall building, Broadcast Centre and The Tea Building, London City Hall, and CityPoint.

March 2016 – WiredScore Directors are featured as part of Estates Gazette’s 2016 Power List

WiredScore’s own EMEA Director William Newtown and Tom Redmayne, UK Business Development Director were featured as 7th in Estates Gazette 2016 Power List, alongside key property influencers including Derwent Chief Executive John Burns and Cushman & Wakefield’s “Queen of Tech” Juliette Morgan.

“Buyers, both domestic and overseas, know that a connected building is essential for attracting occupiers and Wired Certification could help property owners understand how to future poof their building’s connectivity”

June 2016 – Sadiq Khan reaffirms WiredScore endorsement, and White Collar Factory is the first development to be Wired Certified Platinum

This year’s London Tech Week marked the first event for new London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who took the opportunity to reaffirm the GLA’s endorsement of Wired Certification. His recognition of our helping London businesses make the right choices while improving the city’s connectivity proved to be a positive start to our relationship with the new London Mayor.

A few days after London Tech Week, White Collar Factory was announced as the first Development to attain the Wired Certified Platinum rating. Situated in the heart of London’s Tech City, the development is quoted as one of Derwent’s most ambitious schemes to date. White Collar Factory’s Wired Certification achievement helped recognise the world class connectivity in an area which previously has been criticised for poor broadband.

August 2016 – The Shard receives 7th Wired Certified Platinum rating

The Shard, one of the world’s most iconic buildings, was the 7th building in the UK to achieve a Wired Certified Platinum rating. The rating was yet another example of some of London’s most digitally progressive landlords taking measures to ensure their occupiers have access to best in class connectivity.

September 2016 – WiredScore expands across the UK and WiredScore Directors win Estates Gazette Rising Star Award

After increasing demand from national landlords, WiredScore formally launched UK wide with a focused launch event in Manchester with an endorsement from Sir Howard Bernstein and a research report, Manchester: A Connected Future, that explores the future of Manchester’s connectivity. We were thankful to launch in Manchester with 4M sq ft of office stock thanks to some of the city’s progressive commercial real estate leaders including CBRE Global Investors, Kennedy Wilson Europe, Legal & General Investment Management, Peel, Property Alliance, NOMA/Hermes Investment Manage, Schroders and Helical. Not long after our Manchester event, we were pleased to announce that Ashby Capital’s The Colmore Building launched Birmingham as the first Wired Certified Platinum building.

We would also like to thank Estates Gazette for awarding William and Tom 2016’s Rising Stars at the annual Estates Gazette Awards Dinner. The award denotes young influential individuals in the property community. You can read the follow up feature in Estates Gazette here.
