Commerce Court Achieves Highest International Distinction for Superior Technological Infrastructure in Office Buildings

Four-Building Complex in Downtown Toronto Achieves Coveted Platinum Wired Certification for Best-in-Class Internet Connectivity for Two Million Sq. Ft. of Office and Retail Space

Commerce Court and WiredScore announced today that the four-building office complex located in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District has been designated Wired Certified Platinum.

The designation was assigned upon extensive review of Commerce Court’s two million sq. ft. complex for best-in-class connectivity, technological infrastructure and readiness to adopt emerging technologies.

Commerce Court’s East, South and West Towers, constructed in 1971, all achieved Wired Certified Platinum designations. Commerce Court’s North Tower, built in 1931, joins a distinguished group of historic properties that have also achieved Wired Certified Platinum, having been retrofitted to achieve best-in-class digital infrastructure to meet the needs of today’s tenants. These elite historic properties include the Empire State Building in New York, the Wrigley Building in Chicago, and PacMutual in Los Angeles.

Commerce Court is centrally located in downtown Toronto and provides direct access to a number of transportation amenities including the bus and subway system, the underground PATH network, and highways. Additionally, tenants have access to over 55 retailers offering a mix of shops, services and food options on the Concourse level.

Notable tenants benefitting from Commerce Court’s best-in-class digital infrastructure include Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, B2B Bank, CIBC, Chubb Insurance, Equinox Fitness Club, Mackie Research Capital Corporation, CI Financial, and Stikeman Elliott LLP. Commerce Court is also home to one of the corporate offices of QuadReal Property Group, the complex’s management company.

In pursuing Wired Certification, Commerce Court underwent a comprehensive process to evaluate digital infrastructure that supports resilient, reliable internet connectivity for businesses. A Wired Certification level is based on official standards developed by WiredScore and its connectivity advisory board with representatives from Google Fiber, Rudin Management, Arup, WSP / Parsons Brinckerhoff and Zayo Group. They review the internet service providers available to tenants, infrastructure redundancy, connection access points and readiness to meet future tenant needs.

The certifications were assigned based on the building’s ability to provide tenants with the connectivity features that matter most: multiple points of entry into the building to mitigate service outages, capacity to support future equipment installation, multiple communications risers allowing physical redundancy, and five internet service providers offering high-speed fibre connectivity.

In addition to its Wired Certification achievements, Commerce Court has also been recognized for excellence in operational best practices and sustainability by BOMA and LEED.
